Wood Pellets Biomass
As time went by, nowadays using biomass renewable energy sources for heating purpose is becoming a very popular trend nearly all over the word. Wood pellets are one type of biomass renewable energy sources. They are usually small, tightly-compacted wood products that could be burned in wood pellets burners, stoves, fireplace insert and the like.
Wood pellets are such biomass renewable fuel which is clean, carbon-neutral and emits extremely low particulates into the atmosphere. Wood pellets fuel contain nothing but wood. Therefore burning biomass wood pellets as home heating fuel is definitely a bang for the buck both monetarily and ecologically.
Biomass refers to biological material from living, or recently living organisms and always used to describe any organic material which can be used as a fuel. For example wood, wood waste, energy crops, grass and agricultural waste such as straw, corn stalks, peanut shells and so on.
When the size and moisture content get to the ideal amount, the wood pellets would be of about the same heat value. The Pellet Fuel Institute has established two residential fuel standards to let fuel consumers choose the best wood pellets fuel that suit their personal stoves or furnaces. They are premium grade and standard grade. The premium grade biomass wood pellets fuel requires ash content no more than than1%. The majority of these premium grade biomass wood pellets always will be made from white wood (no bark) because this kind of wood is lower in ash which will leave less residual in the stove after burning. The standard grade biomass wood pellets fuel includes the same criteria fines, bulk density and dimensions except a less stringent inorganic ash specification of less than 3%.
The length of biomass wood pellets is quite different from each other. Generally they are between 25 inches and 1.5 inches. As you change from one length to another, you may have to increase or decrease the feed rate of your appliance because in most biomass wood pellets appliances, shorter pellets feed faster than longer pellets.
